# Find workspace member Source: https://neondeerdata.com/docs/platform/automations/steps/find-workspace-member/ Step · Lookup and record data Finds a workspace member by ID or email address. ## Inputs | Label | Key | Type | Required | Notes | | -------------------------- | --------------------- | ---------- | -------- | ------------------------------------------------------------ | | Workspace member ID | `workspace_member_id` | Text | No | | | Email | `email` | Text | No | | | Case-sensitive email match | `case_sensitive` | True/false | No | Default off. | | Normalize email | `normalize_email` | True/false | No | Default off. “Treat dot and plus email aliases as the same.” | ## Outputs | Label | Key | Type | Always set | Notes | | ------------------- | --------------------- | ------ | ---------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | | Member | `member` | Actor | No | | | Workspace member ID | `workspace_member_id` | Text | No | | | Count | `count` | Number | Yes | 0 or 1. | | Member details | `member_details` | Group | No | Access level, Avatar URL, Email, First name, Full name, Last name. Unknown access levels are reported as `member`. | | Normalized email | `normalized_email` | Text | No | Present whenever an email was given. | ## How it behaves - By ID: reads that member. By email: lists all members (100 per page, up to 50 pages) and compares normalized emails. With both: the member found by ID must also match the email. - Normalization: trims, always lowercases the domain, lowercases the local part unless Case-sensitive email match is on. With Normalize email, removes a `+tag` and every dot from the local part, for every domain. - No input, a malformed ID, a malformed email or no match gives Count 0, not an error. ## Errors For errors that every step can return, see [Troubleshooting](https://neondeerdata.com/docs/platform/automations/troubleshooting/). ## Example Match the email on an inbound form to the workspace member who owns the lead. **Example inputs** | Input | Value | | --------------- | ---------------------- | | Email | Maya.Chen+crm@acme.com | | Normalize email | On | **Example outputs** | Output | Value | | ------------------- | ----------------------------------------------- | | Member | Maya Chen (workspace member) | | Workspace member ID | 8b9c0d1e-2f3a-4b4c-9d5e-6f7a8b9c0d1e | | Count | 1 | | Member details | Full name: Maya Chen; Email: maya.chen@acme.com | | Normalized email | mayachen@acme.com | Normalize email drops the `+crm` tag and the dot, so it matches the member whose email is maya.chen@acme.com. No match gives Count 0, not an error.
