# Get primary value Source: https://neondeerdata.com/docs/platform/automations/steps/get-primary-value/ Step ยท Lookup and record data Returns the first (primary) email, domain or phone number. ## Inputs | Label | Key | Type | Required | Notes | | -------------- | ---------------- | ------------------------------------------- | -------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Attribute type | `attribute_type` | Choice: Domain, Email address, Phone number | Yes | Variables cannot be wired into this input. The value inputs below change with the choice. | | Values | `_values` | Values of the chosen type | No | | ## Outputs ### Branch Found (`found`) | Label | Key | Type | Always set | Notes | | ------- | --------- | ---- | ---------- | ----------- | | Primary | `primary` | Text | Yes | Lowercased. | ### Branch Empty (`empty`) No output fields. ## How it behaves - Takes the first value after normalization. No values takes the Empty branch. ## Errors Fails when - Values is not wired for the chosen Attribute type. Wire a variable into Values. - Values has entries but none can be read. The step fails rather than return an empty primary. For errors that every step can return, see [Troubleshooting](https://neondeerdata.com/docs/platform/automations/troubleshooting/). ## Example Use a person's first email address as the recipient of a follow-up. **Example inputs** | Input | Value | | -------------- | -------------------------------- | | Attribute type | Email address | | Values | Priya@Acme.com, p.shah@gmail.com | **Example outputs** | Output | Value | | ------- | -------------- | | Primary | priya@acme.com | The output is lowercased. With no values the run takes the Empty branch, which has no outputs.
